Home made vanilla extract

  • 250 ml Vodka
  • 6-8 vanilla beans

  1. Have ready a 250ml bottle with a tight-fitting lid preferably a cork lid.
  2. Pour boiling water into it, let rest for 10 minutes to sterilize, and pour out the water.
  3. Using a sharp knife, slice the beans open lengthwise to expose the seeds. Tuck the beans in the jar and fill with liquor.
  4. Close the jar, shake it a few times, and place it in a cool, dark cabinet.
  5. Just it a shake every few days for the first 3 weeks then once a week for 6 months.
  6. Infusing time is about 6 months but if you keep it longer, the stronger the vanilla extract will become.
